Manager Review

Avari

Avari's guest rating of 4.58 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

We booked for three nights but only stayed for two. It was very hard to find, it’s tucked behind a massive shop but that was never explained. The bedsheets and all the towels reeked like they’d been sitting in the washer for too long. We tried rewashing the towels and they still smelled horribly. The rugs looked like they were glued down but all the corners were starting to come up so you saw the dirty glue. No blinds in the front window so at night you see right through the house. We randomly got a knock on the door from a guy asking if it was okay to mow the lawn, I know places have landscaping but a heads up that it was going to happen while we were there would have been nice. The piping is terrible, the one bathroom plumbing made noises for at least 5 minutes after you flushed. We also had a random knock on the window at 2am, could have been anything, but given that we had two random guys show up claiming to be landscapers, it freaked us out enough that we left the next day.

Check in was at 4, we arrived at 4:30 to see a utility van in the driveway. The man came out of the house and asked us to give him more time because he was working on the televisions. We got into the home around 5. It was dirty. Dead flies in the big tub for the master bathroom. Dead flies and ants all over the house. None of the tvs worked. The top oven smoked out the house after being preheated. The sliding door upstairs did not lock. They had a board to be placed in the door. House was not clean. I called to complain and it took multiple calls to finally get through to someone. The guy I talked to was very rude and said I was lying about the tvs. Finally a manager called me. Refunded my cleaning deposit but did not do anything for the late check in or other issues. Will not rent through them again

House was overall fine. I did not like that the living are was a step down from the entry and kitchen. The floors in the kitchen and bathrooms were visibly dirty when we arrived, which was unfortunate. We also had issues with the TV. There really should be a book of instructions at the house specific to its electronics, etc. We figured out the TV wasn’t working because it is plugged into a ln outlet that is controlled by a light switch that was turned off. The light switch is easily mistaken for the lamp near it and is understandable why it would get flipped off. This needs to be updated.

I was very disappointed with Avari’s management. Not only did we not receive the check in code until 1.5 hours after check-in, how it was handled was miserable. I messaged them probably 8 times between 3:40 and 5:00. After about the 4th or 5th message, I called them. When I called it was completely automated and I sat on hold for almost 10 minutes and never talked to anyone. I had to call Airbnb and even THEY couldn’t get ahold of them. We had to go to dinner since we couldn’t use their kitchen and finally I received a very unsympathetic one line message around 5:30pm “Hi. There should be a back up lockbox and the code is xxxx”. This was on Memorial Day weekend mind you! There wasn’t a hotel or anything available for miles!!! Had we not received the code we probably would’ve had to stay in our car or book somewhere out of town. Upon checkout I asked if we could at least checkout a couple hours later. That seemed fair to me. Their response was generic and automated. Avoid Avari!!

Overall my stay was good! Pros: great space and amenities, beautiful views and location, short drive to the beach. Cons: was never given a code to enter and checked in an hour late (waited 20 min on hold before someone started working on the problem) also dirty bed sheets and cold showers. Dirty towel still in bathroom. So yeah if the place were cleaner and checking in went smoother it would’ve been a perfect stay.

Unit was nice and clean but not what I paid for. I asked for, and was sold a unit on the lake with a balcony. I was told this in writing. Unit had neither. No Balcony and no view at all. Unit was neat enough and property was OK. Pool was closed. I didn't expect that to be open. However I did expect what I was sold, specifically that: "the condo is a lake view unit with stunning views of the lake from the balcony" in messages with the host. After messaging upon check-in and waiting hours for a reply, management dismissed my request for a different unit on the lake with a balcony by saying they looked at pictures on the map and determined it was a "lake front unit".. When I sent photos of no view and asked about the non existent balcony, they stopped replying and I had to get AirBnB involved later that night. It took until the next day to get a partial refund. I booked a non AirBnB cottage on the lake and moved. I would not rent from this corporate owner again.

The air conditioning in the unit did not work at all, it was consistently at 79-81 degrees and despite turning it down it would just stay hot. This eventually made the entire place extremely humid and muggy. As we were not allowed to leave the door open to air the place out it ultimately, it made sleeping and existing in the place extremely uncomfortable. The water temperature in the unit was very inconsistent, in the shower the water temperature would fluctuate without any warning. Often getting extremely, I mean EXTREMELY hot and would then be very cold once you changed it. The unit also had a strong mildew smell, dishes were found dirty in the cabinets, there is no hand soap for any of the sinks, the very rusty towel hanger in the bathroom is not hung properly it fell consistently and was virtually unusable. When we arrived there was sand basically all over the place, in the beds, all over the floor etc. due to the consistent humidity all the surfaces were all very sticky as well.

There is no free parking! there is a deception in the description, you need to pay $50 for each car. It's very dirty inside, and there's dust under the bed that's been there for a long time. The living room seats smell of damp and animals, so you can forget about this area. The hair dryer is not working in one of the rooms. The advantages include a beautiful view from the window, the building itself is clean, with private facilities, a nice pool bar with a Jacuzzi.

The listing was very misleading. The photos make it look like you’re renting the entire house, and the description mentioning a “main house in front” made me assume the Airbnb was a separate guest cabin or loft. What they don’t clearly explain is that the house in the photos is actually divided, and you’re only renting one side of it. There’s even a door inside that’s sealed off leading to the other part of the house. When we arrived, there was a paint stain upstairs, the upstairs bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable, and we found Fireball candy wrappers in a drawer and underneath the bed, which made it obvious the place wasn’t cleaned very thoroughly. The WiFi was also terrible. They use a very cheap router, and the connection constantly cut in and out during our entire stay. The worst part was the carpenter ants. Within only 2 nights, me and my friend had to kill over 10 ants INSIDE the cabin. For the price, that’s completely unacceptable. The listing feels falsely advertised!

Slow to communicate about a cockroach problem that happened twice. We had to leave and did not complete our stay. They had no sprays, traps, or resources for us to use. Took 9 hours to even acknowledge our issue
