Leavetown Vacations

Leavetown Vacations's guest rating of 4.75 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

We absolutely loved A Place at the Beach III! The beach access, pool, water slide, and other amenities were amazing, and the resort itself was perfect for a family vacation. Unfortunately, Unit 223, managed by Leavetown Vacations and rented through Airbnb, was awful. The unit was extremely outdated, with peeling wallpaper, and a strong odor that smelled like stinky feet. We also found a bloodstain on a spare pillow, and the balcony door did not have a working lock, which was a major safety concern. Worst of all, there were roaches in the unit. The bathtub in the bedroom would not drain properly. Since we were only staying for three nights, calling and waiting for maintenance felt like more of a hassle, so we unfortunately just dealt with it during our stay. We would definitely recommend the resort itself and would love to return, but we would not stay in Unit 223 or book through Leavetown Vacations again. Next time, we will book a unit directly through a private owner.

We have stayed at Rumbling Bald before and expected a similar level of accommodations, but unfortunately this unit was very disappointing. There appeared to be either black dirt or mold on some of the higher areas of the ceilings, and the ceiling above the kitchen island was actively leaking with visible signs of water damage. There was also a noticeable musty smell, which we brought to management’s attention but felt was mostly dismissed. We later discovered that the ceiling above the dryer was cracked, falling down, and also appeared to have a leak! There were several other maintenance and safety concerns. The railing around the upper-level deck was cracked and loose. Very dangerous. The shower had visible mold around the door. The TVs were extremely outdated—the picture and sound were not even in sync and they were not smart TVs, so viewing options were very limited. Another thing we were not expecting was having to essentially check in 2x and pay additional fees. Don’t stay here!

I was asked to switch rooms in the middle of my 3 night stay. After driving 4 hours and needing to relax I had to repack and unpack all my stuff for one additional night. It was very stressful. Spent most of the time communicating with them phone and text. I paid in full for the 3 nights. The right up was very misleading this is not an unusual occurrence. The front desk said it’s a Friday to Friday operation. So they never should have booked me from Wednesday til Saturday. And when I said, I was not going to switch rooms because I had paid for it and was already settled in the Manager Sheila told me she would call the police on me. She did not even know who the Airbnb person that rented to me was. Overall, very stressful, horrible experience. After many many years of using Airbnb, I’ve never experienced anything like this.

The unit was not as described, missing amenities such as no washer/dryer in unit. Fridge is not full size. There was not a view of the golf course since it's currently under construction which resulted waking up to construction equipment. The deck was unsafe with boards and nails sticking out which resulted in not being able to use with children (decking literally had yellow caution taped over parts of it). Worst of all, they told us the day after we checked in that we had to move units for the last 24 hours. Being on vacation with children and an elderly adult, that doesn't work for us and we would have never booked this if that had been told to us up front. When sending concerns to the host, their first response was them basically trying to say these things were not an issue and defending the situation. They did refund some money after several communications back and forth and us finally saying this was not okay and we would report to air BNB.

1. On Wednesdays, both the reception office and the Leavetown check-in number are closed. This isn’t mentioned in the check-in instructions. We only got our keys after calling the after-hours emergency number. 2. Check-in is at a different location from the resort, which also isn’t communicated. 3. You’re given a one-hour check-in window (4–5 PM). Arriving later requires notifying the host at least 72 hours in advance or you may be marked as a no-show. Leavetown didn’t communicate this requirement until 71 hours before our arrival, making compliance impossible. 4. All resort amenities (lake, pools, etc.) cost an additional $6.50/person/day. This isn’t disclosed in Leavetown’s listing and felt like a “gotcha.” 5. Our roof leaked directly over the bed. We reported it, but staff didn’t seem concerned. 6. The resort is beautiful, and we’ll return—but not through Leavetown. There are many independently owned Airbnb condos at the resort, and I’d recommend booking one of those instead.

The cabin was nice and situated in a nice area of Big Canoe, although a good bit further from the main road than indicated on the listing map. Did not see listed on the listing page, but no trash bags, outdoor trash bin/can, dish washing detergent, or dish soap were provided. There were additional inconveniences such as requiring the keys to be picked up and returned from a separate location within Big Canoe and requiring us to carry our trash with us on the way out.

Our reservation at our resort was cancelled 5 days before our check in date but I was not informed. I continued to receive emails about the upcoming trip but nothing about the cancelled reservation. When I arrived and was told I had no room, the company lied and said they called many times. I received no voicemails and no missed calls from the state in which the company is located. Luckily the resort had a cancellation and could accommodate us but Leavetown Reality did nothing but say they’ve called to tell us that they moved us to another location. I would not be leaving this review if they owned up to their mistake in management but they continued to lie for multiple days to cover up poor employee performance. I will be booking directly with resorts from now on and will not be using this app.

Inaccurate description of "beachfront property with oceanfront views." Could not see ocean from balcony. Photos on site are photos from updated renovations provided by company. However, this is a timeshare in which NONE of the properties offered have been updated. They are outdated and grungy. Carpet smells, did not sit on furniture. Leavetown was quick to respond but not helpful in resolution of concerns. Offered slight reimbursement but not satisfactory compared to what was comparable in the area. BEWARE of this listing.

The room was very dirty and outdated. It did not look like the pictures. No access to the balcony and the view of the beach was ruined by scaffolding. I don’t recommend staying at Ocean Towers in Myrtle Beach until they fix the issues with the building and clean and renovate the units.

Hidden check in fee, a lack of compassion or customer service in addressing the matter. It’s difficult to argue said fee when you are miles from home and standing at check in.
