Del Mar Vacations

Del Mar Vacations's guest rating of 4.79 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

We had a pleasant stay in Cape Cod overall, but the general condition suggests it hasn’t been well cared for in a couple of years. The laundry detergent situation was also frustrating. After asking about pods, I got one explanation via the app, then received contradictory information via text. They eventually dropped some off, but the inconsistent communication made a simple request unnecessarily complicated. On checkout day, someone showed up at 8:15 AM to work on the AC without any notice, which was disruptive right before our 9 AM departure. With some attention to repairs and replacements, and a more customer-first, helpful approach, this could be a solid rental. As it stands, we’d look elsewhere next time.

The worst Airbnb experience we have ever had. Our hot water heater broke and we were without hot water for 48 hours. Del Mar did not offer any alternate shower arrangements (despite numerous requests), so we could not take a hot shower for two full days. In addition, technicians came to the house on three separate occasions and stayed for hours, completely eliminating our privacy, disrupting our ability to work remotely, and forcing us to reschedule work meetings. They did not tell us when the technicians would arrive, so we had to wait for hours. We were told the hot water heater had not been replaced in 22 years. In addition, numerous lights were burnt out at the house. The only outdoor light in the front of the house would not stay on, making it pitch black at night, which felt unsafe. The cleaning staff also took all of our shower products from the outdoor shower on the first day. Del Mar reimbursed us but we were without our products all week.

Although the photos made it look sparkling new, the property actually is quite tired. The bed in the master bedroom has a wooden plank under the mattress instead of a box spring (hello college!), and the mattress was very saggy. Much of the furniture and the cabinetry was old and chipped. In addition to central air, the bedrooms have window units, so you are unable to get any fresh air, and the windows that were able to be opened were very difficult to open and it was clear from the debris that no one had cleaned them in awhile, if ever. The shower caddy in the master bedroom was placed in such a way that you could not move the shower head, so you had to move over to almost the wall to get wet. The stoppers In both bathroom sinks did not work well enough to maintain the water level, and the towel rack in the 2nd bathroom fell off the wall. The outdoor table and chairs were absolutely filthy, and the table rusted. A fuse blew and we had to root around in the basement to reset it.

Unfortunately, our stay fell well short of expectations for the price. The apartment was dirty when we arrived, with stains on glasses, sheets, and other items. Several things were also broken, including the closet door, nightstand lamp, door stopper, and shades. These issues were especially disappointing given the 9 AM checkout and 4 PM check-in. With 7 hours between guests, we expected the apartment to be in a much more move-in-ready condition. The property lacks basic beach essentials like towels and chairs. They can be rented from management for an additional fee that is roughly the same cost as buying them new, which is difficult to justify. The appliances work but are very old or inconveniently arranged. For example, the washer and dryer are located in a bedroom with no door. Given what we paid for one week, we expected newer and more updated amenities. Expect multiple texts from management every day, mostly marketing messages and redundant reminders, which became excessive.

After gathering for our 26th annual family vacation on Cape Cod with our young adult family we were truly let down within 24hours. We were terribly impacted by all the Fire alarms going off every day at 6:30 -6:45am multiple times. We were disturbed daily with fire alarm- all 7 days. Fire dept came, Del Mar work people came 3 times to try and fix it- never resolved! Del Mar lawn service showed up unannounced and displaced us while they took care of very large yard. Many Amenities were promised -ping pong table broken, ice maker broken, couch falls apart when sat on. No room to store food in kitchen. Kitchen had very poor utensils with lots of necessities missing. No beach chairs or beach towEach person got 1 towel for the week, little to no lighting outside house. Poor instructions to amenities. Del Mar should have put us in a different property since there clearly was an electrical problem. Disappointed and exhausted after a costly vacation, a lot of frustration, and very little sleep

Location and neighborhood was very nice but house was old and not well taken care of. Baseboard heaters had rusty spots all over, entire house was damp and smelled mildewy. The AC units in each bedroom were insanely loud and moldy. There were stains/ debris on many of the walls and ceilings. 2 Dining chairs were broken and there was no functioning vacuum cleaner. Box springs were stained, there were broken closet doors and the rugs were very old and dirty. There were also ants all over the kitchen counter and kitchen appliances were old and falling apart. WAY too pricey for the condition. Also recommend more bath towels are included and would HIGHLY suggest entry mats at each doorway (there were none) and a basket near the front door for shoes.

So when we first walked in we saw the occasional gnat flying around and had to google images of what was “earwigs” which is typical in damp areas. Then we saw more and more. We understand that some insects are unavoidable in a beach cottage, but we encountered significantly more than we expected. Over the course of our stay, we found probably at least 15 earwigs inside, ants, gnats, then the last straw was on our last night- a cockroach on the wall next to my bed and I immediately told the owner who just apologized and that was it. There was a hornets’ nest on the exterior of the cottage. At one point, a spider even fell on my face while we were watching TV.

Beautiful pool, backyard and porch but was unusable because of the biting horseflies that swarm all day. They will bite the top of your head while peaking out of pool. This should be advertised when showing the pool pictures. Stove knobs so worn out you couldn’t even tell the setting.

The house is deep into the woods on a very rough dirt road. It would be difficult to access without 4-wheel drive. The smell of mold/mildew is horrible. Everything from my suitcase smells terrible even things I didn’t wear on the trip. The house advertises having air conditioning but the unit is not sufficient for cooling the size of the space. I booked it for air conditioning so that was a real disappointment. When I arrived the original AC unit was full of black mold. They did replace it with another unit but it could not cool the space. Because of holes in the screens you cannot keep the windows open to cool it down without having terrible issues with insects entering the home. Would not stay here again. They should not advertise AC as an amenity. Very misleading. The odor issue is really bad. The first time I’ve ever stayed in an AirBnb and been concerned for our health.

DO NOT RENT FROM DEL MAR VACATIONS! They are a scam. The house was not what they advertised it as. The central AC did not work. It wasn't serviced since last year. It was dirty, unkept, with an odor. The house cost $4,200 for the week. It was advertised as a 3 bd/2.5 bath house. It had only 2 legitimate bedrooms. Their pictures must have been taken with a fish eye lens. House was small. I complained. They failed to timely respond. They offered a $1,000 convenience refund "AS LONG AS I WAITED 14 DAYS SO THEY WON'T GET A BAD REVIEW". Really! Just think how many BAD REVIEWS they receive for that to be their policy. Today is day 13 for me. I called for my refund now. Nick at Del Mar still refused saying "it's not yet the 14 day mark". CAPE COD many other wonderful places to rent houses from. DEL MAR should be shut down and their ownership arrested for FRAUD. STAY AWAY FROM DEL MAR VACATION RENTALS!
