Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals

Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals's guest rating of 4.77 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

The house and location was beautiful. Exactly as described. So peaceful and close to town. Our only issue was actually with Airbnb. They really dropped the ball at check in. We never got our email with check in information. And when we texted the number provided for help, they were extremely slow in replying and not helpful what so ever. They did not actually answer our questions. We ended up having to wait over 40 mins to get any information to check in. Very frustrating after driving all day. Airbnb communication was lacking and not helpful. Thank goodness BRR was also listed because they were helpful and were able to help us get inside the house. Otherwise, everything else was perfect!

The property was significantly different from the listing. The second "bedroom" is an open loft with no air conditioning or privacy. The property is not truly waterfront; there is only a tiny creek down the driveway that isn't visible from the cabin. There was no dishwasher despite being listed. Worse, the game room walls were covered in mold, the sleeper sofa linens smelled like they had been put away wet, and the upstairs shower leaked into the downstairs bedroom. We reported the problems the morning of July 3. It took until evening July 4 for them to find a replacement, and we didn't receive confirmation until we followed up on July 5. At the 2nd property, the fridge was unplugged, hot and moldy, and we had to sanitize it. We had to replace groceries that spoiled while we relocated and then waited for the fridge to cool. Communication required repeated follow-ups. We ultimately lost nearly half our vacation dealing with issues that should have been addressed before check-in.

Squirrel’s Leap is a beautiful home that is well appointed, wonderful outdoor fireplace, Two comfortable bedrooms with excellent bathroom facilities. Kitchen is well equipped. Would give a five star rating if we didn’t have to deal with the fire alarms going off intermittently throughout our stay. This included one night that began with it going off on 15 minute intervals. Reaching out was useless at night. While they did send maintenance that afternoon, it did not resolve the issue. It went off every day including when we were departing. This was with reaching out daily for assistance. Additionally, the HVAC unit failed to cool the upstairs while freezing the downstairs. Thankfully it was cool enough at night to cool the bedrooms by opening the windows. Great property otherwise.

Despite not being able to get in due to the door cose not working and difficulty in communicating with the after our support staff due to network difficulties the place itself was very similar to the description. It was big enough for 3 families with kids. Quiet and Nature was the bonus and the creek added to the charm.

The only shower with hot water was in the basement. All other showers were hot and then quickly turned cold. All sinks in the bathrooms ran only cold water. There were not enough washcloths and hand towels. There were only 11 forks and very few small spoons. I reported the water issue and it was never resolved. I spoke with a staff person who said she would have some washcloths/hand towels delivered but we never received them.

The front door was broken. There was no way to lock it. The owners glued a handwritten note saying “DO NOT ENTER” - “DO NOT TOUCH”. The bottom floor bedroom door didn’t lock. The security system was disabled. The dishwasher didn’t work. The safety gate was broken. There’s no blinds. Except on the woods facing windows. There’s absolutely no lights outside and the path to get there is pitch black. Straight out of a horror movie. Absolutely do not recommend staying here!

Amazing location and beautiful property. We ended up not having hot water for one of days and the host company was less than helpful in resolving it. Additionally, customer service was very rude and unprofessional.

Unsafe and misleading. Entry requires an online access link, but there is no cell or GPS signal on-site, so we could not get in. We escalated it to their answering service and never received a call back as we were told. The road is not gravel as listed—it’s a long, winding dirt road with steep drop-offs that feels dangerous, especially at night or in bad weather and with no gps or cell signal. We had to leave for safety reasons. Not suitable for families or anyone unprepared to be fully off-grid.

Upon arrival, there was a plumber on site with zero communication from the hosts prior. Later arrived 2 propane guys, 2 cleaners and a maintence guy. So our fun vacation began with dealing with 6 different workers and learning that the secondary home included in our reservation had no running water. Since we did not have access to shower, run the sink or toilet, that house was unuseable. We spent 4.5 hours on phone calls being transferred multiple times and offered no solution other than to relocate almost an hour away, as the company had no other available rentals to accomodate 11 of us. We were told we could take a $800 refund (we paid over $3500 for the 3 nights to stay there) or to vacate the premise within 40 min. Even though we already told them half our group was on the mountain skiing. In the main house, we were greeted with brown water in clogged toilets. The couch and carpets were stained. We were then offered a $1000 refund, but they ended up only sending us $800. Horrible.

We had a very disappointing experience with Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals. Upon arrival, the property had no running water, toilets would not flush, showers did not work, and we could not cook or properly wash our hands. We were traveling with 5 adults, 2 children, and 2 pets, which made the situation even more stressful. A technician came out but was unable to fix the issue. We were told “emergency” gallons of water would be delivered so we could at least flush toilets, and we waited until 2:00 a.m., but no water was ever brought. The following morning, we were told another technician would arrive at 9:00 a.m., then 10:00 a.m., then that they were “on the way”, but no one ever showed. After hours without basic utilities and repeated assurances with no resolution, we had no choice but to pack up and leave. Relocation options offered were over 45 minutes away, which was not practical given why we chose the original location.
