Sweet Homes Vacation Rentals

Sweet Homes Vacation Rentals's guest rating of 4.73 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

Sweet Homes never provided me the access to the house. I followed all the rules and provided my license plate number. I was in contact with them all day. I even spoke with the cleaning crew as they left at 5pm. However, Sweet Home NEVER gave me the access code to enter the property. I spent 90+ minutes at the door calling and texting and messaging trying to get the code to the keypad. Sweet Homes didn’t care. They took my money and laughed at me. What they did to me is not only a case for the BBB but is also criminal.

It is on the beach, as advertised. With beautiful sweeping views. The house is roomy. The decor is quite dated and starting to look run-down - cabinets don't close, utensils in the kitchen are inadequate, dents in the walls, and doors that don't shut properly. When we arrived, the microwave door was broken. It was cracked and quite dangerous. The game room was disappointing. It had poor lighting, and the games were old and worn down. We asked the management company if there were beach chairs. They firmly responded that none of the properties came with beach chairs unless the owner chose to leave some there. We purchased chairs at the last minute. Turns out they did have beach chairs. Why didn't the management company know this? I found my communication with the owner to be gracious and helpful. My experience with the management company was cold and impersonal. If you choose to rent this house, make every effort to continue working with the owner rather than the management company.

Nothing could have prepared me for the 3-day long insult of being uncomfortable in the heat of their non-explained three-part antiquated gas fire system and floorboard heating. I had a cat wander in, as well as insects/spider, because I had the two doors open for hours at a time trying to cool down the front room.

Lovely view of expansive beach. House has maintenance issues, bathroom door was missing and only had a curtain that didn’t stay closed. For such an equipped kitchen they provide zero spices or sugar for coffee-very inconvenient. The owners should spend less on decor and more on upkeep and updates.

The views were beautiful and very calm and quiet. The house itself needs maintenance. When we arrived, we were told that it was ready to be checked in earlier than the initial time. We arrived about 15 minutes earlier and was unable to enter until the regular time, though we received notification it was ready to go. When we arrived there was still garbage from the last tenants and all mirrors and other spots of the house seemed not clean at all. The location is great, but the money spent for unclean residence was disappointing. Also found cellar spoder in the kids room downstairs with web.

Peaceful and private spot, accessible to town and easy beach access. The amenities were sufficient; roomy, clean, lots of linens. Some functional issues that made the stay less than ideal. Would have loved screened doors to be able to air things out indoors without letting bugs in or dogs out. No central air, so the rooms got warm at night, and the glass door in one of the rooms didn't lock and was kept shut with a dowell. The front door frame was broken, and while the door locked from the outside, it could be pulled open from inside. Also could hear termites in the ceiling throughout the night. Not a bad stay but needs some work.

The lack of cleanliness is by far the reason we will never return. Poop and urine stains in both bedrooms’ carpets, pubic hair found IN the bed upon arrival!!!! Toilets were dirty when seats were lifted. The microwave had a horrible odor! The toaster was never cleaned - crumbs and dust all over it. Cutting boards were old and disgusting. The windows were gross - don’t think they’ve EVER been washed. Mirrors too. Lights weren’t working, light fixtures missing in bedroom, sinks missing their drain plugs. No screens in bedroom windows so they couldn’t be opened at night without bugs coming in. Blinds couldn’t be raised in any rooms. There is NO central heating, only electric wall heaters in several rooms which I sat in front of to get warm. WiFi barely worked, couldn’t get connection; and if we did, it wouldn’t stay connected. We texted Sweet Homes daily and they replied, but overall it made for a frustrating and uncomfortable stay. We definitely won’t stay with them ever again.

Pros- Great location, felt very private, love the beach access. Lots of towels given Cons- check in after 5pm is crazy. So you’d expect the place to be really clean, but definitely was super dusty, lots of cobwebs and spiders. It gets cold there- fireplace is decoration only, baseboard heaters don’t work well, so you have to use the various space heaters they leave out to warm the place. No coffee or tea provided, which should be a basic amenity at any hotel you’d stay in. Finally, excessive checkout instructions, including running the dishwasher etc. If i’m doing all the cleaning check in for the next guest should not be 5pm. Overall decent spot but probably not great value for price

Poor communication, I was never sent a door entry code. I sent a message to the host and called after hours emergency phone to get adoor code. I NEVER received a response on day of arrival. Late check in time 5 PM so unable to communicate prior to close of business day, poor set up and very risky. The next morning after business opened STILL NO RESPONSE until I made contact with them. I gave them my time of phone call and they can clearly see my messages in the text line and I was told they would investigate. I never heard back. I was only able to get into the property because it was a 4 plex and we had to ask the neighbors how to get a code, thank goodness it was a generic code that we could figure out on our own. This behavior from a host is unacceptable and I will never rent from a Sweet Homes property again. FYI, I have never had to leave such poor review for anything. What if the other units weren't rented out or if it was a unique code? Things really could have turned out bad

Nice place they need better house keepers. The place could have been a lot cleaner. They offered me no discount after not sending all my check-in instruction until the day after. We had to call the emergency after hours to get the code to get in. It took over 2 hours before we finally got the code which took us 3 times before we got the right one. Had to drive 10 miles one way to get cell service. Gas isn’t cheap these days. I would have been happy with a refund of half of one night. Never again with sweet homes.
