Manager Review

Tahoe Rental Company

Tahoe Rental Company's guest rating of 4.74 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

Where to start… Patio furniture is uncomfortable and old. Umbrella was broken and basically unusable. 2nd master bedroom mattress is awful, extremely old and worn out and sinks in. Overall cleanliness could be better. Tape on the walls from prior guests and dirty dishes in the cupboards. The grill was dirty and ran out of propane cooking our first meal. And the last thing was an experience with a neighbor (unit 317)that was extremely intoxicated approaching us with all our babies/kids cussing us out for making a mistake of parking our paddle board on the pier to long (we were playing on them 5 min prior waiting for other guests to come hop on them next). Checkout day the power went out while trying to pack up and clean. This is a beautiful property but there are a few things that could be improved for the cost you pay to stay here.

This property is poorly represented by the listing photos, so look closely at my photos for reference because they show what you are actually getting. The exterior is overgrown, the gravel paths are barely visible, and there was random trash and equipment left around the property. Inside was worse. The bathrooms and tubs were dirty and worn enough that I have stayed in $39 motels with cleaner facilities. Several rugs had obvious stains and smelled strongly of dog urine. My service dog also repeatedly stopped to intensely sniff nearly every rug. The advertised “peaceful” setting is misleading too. If you know West Tahoe and know the guy who rides around on a bicycle with a Pride flag, rainbow lights and music blaring, well, he lives next door. At 7 p.m. the music was loud enough that I contacted management and was basically told nothing could be done because quiet hours start at 9 p.m. At roughly $600 a night, this was extremely disappointing.

The location was beautiful. Lake views from every floor. The house was spacious and accommodated a large group of us easily. Bathrooms were excellent. Kitchen too. It was a short drive to market and restaurants. It’s a more secluded part of the lake. Should know this makes lake access more challenging. They don’t have pier access nearby. The house is on the main road and you can hear cars loudly all night. Without AC and windows open makes this worse. The house was expensive and with that you expect top notch cleaning. The house smelled of mildew. Couches and rugs had several stains and showed serious wear. Games available for kids didn’t work, except for the pool table which was a hit. Not something we would mind if we went with a cheaper option, but these are easy fixes that should really be taken care of. The hot tub also stopped heating so didn’t get to really enjoy that. All and all we enjoyed our stay and the lake is beautiful but would probably stay somewhere else next time.

When we arrived they alerted us the day of that the hot tub was not working. We had cancelled another place and booked this one for an additional $1,000 for the hot tub. They were not able to fix it and sent a $100 refund. Seems like they waited til the last minute so we couldn’t switch properties and said they’ll refund us after but then only gave $100. The place was also super hot.

Our stay was very good, the house was spacious and very nicely laid out. One thing I would recommend to add cutting boards in the kitchen, there was only one :). The bbq didn’t work on the balcony and outside garbage was full when we got there. The hot tub was extremely hot and we were not able to lower the temperature. Otherwise all good. Thank you

Absolutely awful stay. The initial check in seemed promising and we were excited. The first night we were there we found a mouse running across the floor. The next day there were THREE MICE on the counter ON MY BABY BOTTLES. We then found rodent traps behind the garbage cans in the kitchen indicating they knew there was obviously a problem. I reached out immediately and was assured they were going to do something about it, then was ghosted. They assured me they were going to communicate as soon as someone came and they didn’t. We got back to the home and there were random glue board traps set, the house smelt like someone had smoked a cigarette in there and there was an overwhelming stench of chemicals. I packed up my 3mo old and we drove 9 hours home at 7pm. They were so rude about the entire situation and when asking for some sort of a refund I got a pathetic amount for the amount of inconvenience we experienced. VERY disappointing.

Only issue was that no toiletries were provided and only starter rolls of paper products (paper towels, toilet paper) were provided, even after we extended our stay, no additional supplies were given.

Good location, walkable to the lake, but the place lacks basic amenities needed for the summer - cooling. 3 bed cabin, and there's one ceiling fan in just the living room. The place is unlivable in the summer. All of us slept in the living room under the only fan availabile. Vacated a day early because we, including our 9 month old baby, couldn't take how hot it would get inside the cabin.

Unfortunately, our stay did not match the cleanliness and maintenance standards we expected based on the listing. When we arrived, we found numerous issues including dirty refrigerator and freezer compartments, stained sheets and towels, dog hair throughout the house, a dirty upstairs toilet, and an overall unpleasant odor. We also found bugs in multiple beds and ended up washing sheets and pillowcases ourselves because some linens appeared unclean and smelled strongly of cologne. The upstairs floor was dirty enough that we had to sweep it ourselves, and we spent approximately three hours cleaning on our first night just to make the home comfortable. Several maintenance issues also need attention, including a broken stair tread near the top of the staircase, a loose kitchen faucet, loose toilet paper holder upstairs, and a loose towel holder in the downstairs bathroom. We ultimately decided to shorten our stay and leave a day early because of the condition of the property.

The house is large and has a fine location, however I strongly recommend reading the entire description very carefully before booking. Photos of a sauna were included in the listing, but the sauna has not been working since October. This was not mentioned anywhere in the description, which was disappointing. Additionally, the sauna is located inside the master bedroom, which is not ideal at all — all guests have to walk through that room. The sauna itself is very small: realistically it fits a maximum of 3 people, and only if they are quite slim. The cleanliness of the house was about 70%. In one of the upstairs bedrooms, there is a long-pile wool rug, and the wool was shedding a lot — it easily stuck to feet and ended up all over the house, which was uncomfortable. Also, the upstairs bedroom located in the middle, right by the stairs, was the coldest room in the house. The jacuzzi was great: hot water, clean, and worked perfectly — no complaints there.
