Manager Review

Mt Hood Rentals by Meredith Lodging

Mt Hood Rentals by Meredith Lodging's guest rating of 4.61 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

When Betsy LeBarge was running Mt Hood Rentals it was great. But then she retired and sold to Meredith Lodging, and things have gotten really bad. Homes aren’t cared for, guests aren’t cared for, the reviews keep getting worse and worse. They added a “booking fee” - whenever I do quotes on my home, it’s like an extra 16%+ - making my actual management fee like 46%. Combined with the bad reviews, I’m earning less and less every year.

Super cool spot. Some of the check-out instructions need to be updated as they mentioned things that aren't at the property. Limited cleaning supplies. Wifi did not work well. Loved the river access and access to the grill and hot tub!

I will start with the pros. The actual house and location is beautiful. The home is charming and comfortable and the creek is so peaceful (although you can’t actually get down to it). We loved that wood was provided for fires. It would be nice if the hot tub was heated prior to arrival as it takes several hours to heat so of our 2 night stay, we only could use it the second night. We were very disappointed as it seemed the home was not cleaned in between guests. We came to a huge pile of dirty towels which we had to wash ourselves as there wasn’t enough clean towels; beds were messy and black hair all over the pillow cases, garbage left behind, and clean dishes all in the dishwasher. There was no new soap in the bathroom and also only 1/2 roll toilet paper; garbage left behind in the kitchen. There was also no grill which was disappointing as I specifically reached out and was told we’d have one to use, so that screwed up our dinner plans. When you’re paying $300/night this is not ok.

Unfortunately the wifi and TV didn't work during our stay and was not able to be fixed. Dirty dishes were left in the dishwasher. Over all the house appeared unclean and full of both living and dead bugs. Sheets on one of the beds had an odor.

While the house itself and location is beautiful there were many issues upon arriving. To start of there is no cell service and the wifi did not work. After having maintenance come out and attempting to fix it they said there needed to be a completly new wifi system put in. This was not ideal as it was unsafe in case of emergency. To add on, there was no toilet paper so we had to provide that on our own. On top of that there was many ants found through the home and the hot tub and kitchen seemed to have lack of care. All around this place was not worth the amount I spent.

only 2 towels for the weekend. very dark outside. only 1 tv. overall nice inside. but neighbors dogs were in the yard alot. overall relaxing but not very private for the location and price. could use a fence for dogs in future. also check out at 10am and a 60 dollar fee for 2 more hours if available was hard.

While this property is in a great location (walkable to the village) and has a hot tub, it's a meh property overall. The furniture is old, dated, and uncomfortable (especially the bed on the main floor). The non-stick pans are scratched and old, and there's no hand soap in the bathrooms. The hot tub water was murky with a film along the top. We requested an early check-in, which we were told wasn't an issue. However, they didn't mention that it was an extra $40 for checking in 30 minutes early. We decided to wait. The check-out is at 10:00 A.M., which is early. Don't worry, you'll receive multiple reminders(texts, emails) about the 10 AM checkout. Paid too much for this place.

The accommodation was very spacious which is exactly what we were looking for. Everything was clean and tidy. However, we felt that the kitchen was not well stocked. For example, there’s a coffee pot but no coffee to brew and there was no salt and 6 kernels of pepper in their cracker. They expected you to load and run the dish washer but there was no dish washer detergent / pods available to use. On the other hand there was plenty of dish ware and cutlery available which was great for our large group. The hot tub left a unique reside on the skin, (felt similar to how soft water feels when you’re not used to showering with soft water) nevertheless it felt and functioned great. The price was high but overall we were happy with our stay and would recommend other stay keeping the before mentioned items in mind.

Place was ok. Service was impersonal, very corporate feel. Kitchen didn’t have salt or oil. Cozy place but close to highway (can hear cars passing)

No sauna. Homeowner knows the sauna doesn’t work but they won’t tell you that. Bring toilet paper.

This cabin is lovely. We'd absolutely book again because of the quiet surroundings and proximity to the river. The cabin itself is also just gorgeous, inside and out. I do wish the check in were 3pm rather than 4pm, and the checkout 11am rather than 10am. Especially for the price. Pretty much every place we stay is the 3pm/11am schedule, so the extra early time was a little annoying. They did let us check out late, but it's $30 (plus tax/fees) for each additional hour. Otherwise, great spot.
