“This was a perfect place for a getaway. A nice, cozy cabin on Indian Lake with everything you need. The location was good for sightseeing to Tahquamenon Falls and Kitch-iti-Kipi springs (fun just hearing people trying to pronounce it!). The Fall colors and Lake Michigan were so beautiful.”

“We had a great stay in Hessel! The space was great, extremely roomy, and perfect for our group of 5. The lake view made the stay worth it and we enjoyed time around the fire pit. Would definitely book again!”

“Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Michibay Getaway cottage. There's absolutely no doubt that the location is spectacular- the views of the beach and lake are spectacular and being right on the beach and having (especially at the time of year we were there) essentially your own private beach was really nice. It's a little hard to find, but also as I noted fairly private. The space is fairly well laid-out overall. We only needed and used one of the beds, but there are plenty more for a larger family though there is just the one bathroom. The bed wasn't uncomfortable, but the fitted sheet kept coming loose and getting tangled. The biggest issue we encountered was that the water was VERY sulphur-y, especially the hot water. Definitely bring drinking water. The water is apparently filtered, but it didn't seem very effective when we were there. We also missed having A/C, though after a while we got the right combination of windows open to have the breeze cool the room down.”

“We enjoyed the rustic feel of the cottage - especially the moonrise over the water as well as using the fire pit in the evenings! Excellent location to enjoy walks on the private beach, fall colors, and explore Painted Rocks National Lakeshore (and nearby waterfalls). Clean, lots of towels, and convenient to do laundry.”

“The beach was amazing. The house itself was a net negative- dirty and uncared for. Doors don’t close (warped); carpets smell; crusty spots on sheets; filthy patio furniture. It was very expensive of a rental for the condition it was in.”

“Every flat surface was dirty, sandy, or crumby, SO MANY indoor cobwebs. The sauna did not work. In the photos it looks like a clear path to the beach but it’s mostly brush with a root pathway and not maintained. The worst was the water, the stench of it was nearly unbearable and 10 days later both my husband and I are still treating the rashes we most definitely got from the shower water. The bed and toilet were clean so after an 8 hour drive we stayed but for the price we paid I could have been in any 5 star hotel and that’s really disappointing.”

“We genuinely loved the property and had a great time, but unfortunately there were several issues future guests should know about. The cooking pans were extremely greasy, we found a mouse nest/droppings in a cabinet, towels smelled musty, and there were plumbing issues: very low water pressure in one cabin and a toilet that wouldn’t flush in the other. When management came to fix it, they flooded the bathroom. The most serious issue was the fire pit. It was positioned directly beside a wooden deck with very little separation. We did not move it and used it as provided. The fire was reduced embers before bed, yet the deck caught fire overnight while we were sleeping. Thankfully no one was hurt. Even more concerning, when we notified management, no one asked if anyone was okay or injured. We also had to dispute damage charges for items that weren’t damaged or weren’t even present. Take extensive photos/videos of everything when you arrive. Despite everything, we loved the property.”
