Manager Review

Carolina Retreats

Carolina Retreats's guest rating of 4.60 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

This home is not family friendly. We stayed for 6 nights and 7 days. There was nothing left in the house to clean. No vacuum or broom. When I asked for one they dropped off a cheap one that didn't work. They leave you with 1 trash bag and 2 dishwasher pods and they expect you to provide the rest. The main reason for renting a home is so you don't have to bring everything with you. All of the other homes we have rented provide the basics. When we arrived at the home there was trash left behind and glass on the floor. The master bed was falling apart and held together with 1x4 and one of the bunk beds is unsafe as it wobbles like crazy. The internet was also out for the first couple of days. The company said sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. We had to wait around for the internet company to arrive as well as the rental company. We won't be renting this home or from this company when we go back to the beach. If you want a nice home I would suggest looking elsewhere.

The place was clean, great location, and perfect for a family and pets. It wasn't as comfortable as we were hoping - the pillows were like paper, and the beds were minimally made. The furniture was sparse and not big enough for our family of 4 to enjoy a movie together. The water heater was turned off, but we figured it out early. There wasn't one sample of laundry detergent to run a load. We are used to having one of everything and buying more if we need it. Overall, it was ok. You can tell a rental company is using the bare minimum budget to rent it out. They could do a better job of making it comfortable and actually setting it up like a second home.

We’ve been using Airbnb for a couple years and never had an issue till now. The employees we interacted with were polite but as a company they are very inconsiderate. Had to pick up keys at a different location, the room was set at 78 degrees, and they decided that during our stay was the perfect time to do upgrades in our room so having workers rearrange furniture and run wire till 1830 while we sat on the couch and watched was not on the beach bucket list. After reaching out to the company we received a very generic ChatGPT response the next morning. They provided plenty of towels but to any future guests make sure you bring your own toiletries and trash bags.

The unit was perfect! The view and location were lovely, the place was clean and beautifully decorated, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for cooking. A couple of aspects of the experience were disappointing, so I could not give 5 stars. First, the communication between booking and check-in was excessive. There were so many emails, forms, and contracts that I became concerned about missing something important and potentially jeopardizing my reservation. Second, there were no extra garbage bags provided in the unit. When I reached out, I was told I could stop by their office, located about five minutes away, to pick some up. I found this response both inconvenient and disappointing. Considering this is a management company overseeing more than 200 properties, I believe the response was rude and unprofessional. Overall, the property itself was excellent, but these issues prevented an excellent experience.

The home was beautiful just as the pictures showed. The beach was just a few steps away and you can enjoy every minute of sitting on the porch listening to the waves. Now the bad. There are 4 bedrooms but only 2 TVs. Granted, your not on vacation to watch TV, but if its raining and you want to relax and watch something, you cant. We also fought with the property management and the owner about the temperature of the air conditioning. They will not allow you to go under 72 degrees. For some people, that may be okay, for others that are sunburned or have been out in the heat all day its way too warm. For the price to stay here for 1 level of the house, you shouldn't have to argue over the air conditioning. This is the only airbnb that ive ever experienced this issue with.

We enjoyed our stay overall, especially because we love the neighborhood. The backyard being steps from the community pool was a great surprise, and we loved having access to the private beach entrance and bathroom. The house comfortably fit our group of 10 with plenty of space, the back patio was perfect for gathering, and the kitchen was very well stocked. We also appreciated having beach chairs available for guest use. Overall, we loved the home and location so much that we would definitely stay here again. Most of our frustrations were with the management company rather than the house itself. The grill was still dirty upon arrival despite being told it would be cleaned, and we dealt with low shower water pressure, a bedroom lock issue, broken garbage disposal and several cockroaches during our stay. Management responded quickly, but new issues kept coming up. It was also frustrating that only minimal paper goods and trash bags provided for multi-day stay for a larger group.

BEWARE … BEWARE…..BEWARE Came to the beach with a certified, registered, and trained service animal. Due to the condo having a faulty sliding glass door. The dog was able to open it while we were gone and got on the balcony and was barking this happened five hours within our stay. This is where the bullying, threatening and disrespect started. I was receiving text messages and phone calls from two different numbers neither of them identifying themselves. They called the police out and had them call me all while I was telling them I was on my way to get the dog and I actually called my cousin who lives close and could get there before me to go get her, but they still threatened to call animal control, and have my dog removed. This was all before 8pm. To make a long story short, we were told that we were evicted. I had ask if I left with my service animal could the rest of the party stay because this was my daughter‘s graduation family get together they would not allow that either.

This was a terrible experience. We were told prior to booking unit had elevator and it was on the 2nd floor. I have my 84 year old mom and she can’t do stairs. We arrived late and it was unclear where we were to pick up keys. We went back and forth to main office and to condo. Called and kept getting message to call during regular business hours. Finally dialed the emergency line because it was nearly 11:00pm. The guy answering was trying to give me a 6 digit code, lockbox only had 4 digits. Stayed on hold for a long time. Long story short, we ended up having to get a hotel at midnight. This is not a good rental company!! They close up at 5:00 pm and then you are stuck. Not to mention having to go to a different location to get the keys at midnight. On a good note, I was able to get my week refunded due to their misrepresentation. Just not fun after you drive 10 hours and you have to deal with all this and having to find accommodations after midnight.

We had a hard time getting into the Room. The Code given didnt work. On top of that the phone number to call didn't work, it was actually number that didn't ring. User Busy!! When i tried to message through the Air BNB app. they didn't message me back for 12 hours. I luckily found a number on the Carolina Resorts website and was able to reach a real person that was able to finally get me into the room. Overall it took me 2 plus hours to get in. the person that helped me said that they dont use the App to message customers. That would have been fine if they gave me a good phone number.... On top of that they didnt offer anything to make things right. i would have thought a few dollars or percent off. They did promise me that this will not happen again though... I would not book with Carolina Resorts through the Air BnB app.

The location and layout of the home are nice, but unfortunately our stay was impacted by multiple issues. Cleanliness was not up to standard, with mold and mildew in bathrooms, a dirty refrigerator water dispenser, and kitchen areas that needed to be re-cleaned. I had to spend time during our vacation cleaning parts of the home myself, which was frustrating and unexpected. We were also locked out one morning and reached out for help at 7:15 AM, but did not receive a response until 11:09 AM—after we had already gotten back in. The lack of timely support in that situation was concerning. While the host acknowledged the feedback afterward, there was no resolution offered. Based on our experience, I would recommend confirming cleaning standards and response expectations before booking.
