A Perfect Black Hills Home Base for the Whole Family Boxelder Bluff was the ideal home base for our five-day Black Hills vacation. We used it as our launching point for Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Deadwood, and Spearfish Canyon, and the location made every day trip easy. The house comfortably fit our whole group, and after long days of sightseeing, it was exactly the kind of place you want to come back to. The deck was the highlight of our evenings — the stargazing is incredible out there, and one night we were even lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights. That alone made the stay unforgettable. The home was clean, well-stocked, and everything worked as described. Communication with the host was smooth from booking through checkout. If you're planning a Black Hills or Mount Rushmore trip and want a comfortable place that works for a whole family, Boxelder Bluff is an easy recommendation. We'd happily stay again.

We stayed here as a family and overall it worked well as a home base for exploring the area. The location was convenient and made it easy to get to local attractions and activities. The house itself is very spacious, which was a big plus for our group. The kids especially enjoyed the ping pong table and the basketball game. That said, there were several downsides worth noting. The house feels cluttered, with a lot of items stored throughout the space, which made it feel less clean and less comfortable than expected. The deck was also dirty and not very inviting, and the property overall could benefit from a deeper cleaning and some decluttering. The carpets are stained, and the broken screen door to the patio meant we couldn’t really open things up for airflow, which would have helped with cooling the house. Additionally, the water has a strong sulfur smell, so we ended up relying on bottled water for drinking. Despite these issues, it served its purpose well.
