We were so excited about spending our first wedding anniversary at Wolf River Retreat, unfortunately very early on we realized we wouldn’t be able to stay at the property. A King bed was advertised (one of the reasons I booked it), and a Queen bed is what was in the room. It was also very hard - it would have hurt to sleep on the bed. The cabin was really cute on the inside - but there were rat droppings on top of the cabinet, and one of the exterior doors would not lock. We did, thankfully receive a full refund (after advocating for it), but these things need to get fixed before I could recommend this Wolf River Retreat. A good rule of thumb, if there are only two reviews, you might want to book some place else!

Photos are very misleading. The house is dark, carpet is gross, kitchen sink in main house was so wobbly you could barely turn it on. The sheets and towels were clean, beds were made, but the pillows were like rocks. bathrooms and house were okay but there was mildew in the grout and in the showers. Broken trim was throughout home. The house is listed as renovated, but only the bathrooms have been re-tiled and updated with new fixtures. The rest of the house was disappointing. One of the bedroom door knobs was not firmly attached to the door. The house overall just needed a lot of maintenance. I did not have the energy to call and deal with the property owner traveling alone with my children. One of the back doors would not lock, spiral staircase was wobbly, the handrail on one of the other staircases in the main house also loose. My child scraped their foot at the base of the stairs because of poor transitions in flooring. At $700/night? Not great. Location was close to town.

Our family of 8 adults and 8 kids (age 4 months-10 years) had lots to do inside and out, even on the one rainy day we had. Both young and old enjoyed the hot tub, ping pong, arcade, pool table, & air hockey. The little kids liked the toys and books and played in the playhouse a lot. Most of the family even sat around the chairs outside to roast marshmallows one evening. We grilled 2 nights and ate our suppers on the lit outside porch, all around the same long table. We couldn't find the guest book so didn't get to sign it. We had a great family time together and got some wonderful photos.

The Owls Nest was the perfect house for a family vacation! It’s centrally located between fun towns and comes equipped with anything you may need during your stay! We loved the area and will definitely be back!
