Stay In The Black Hills

“Absolutely beautiful cabin in the Black Hills. We loved so much of what this place offered. Things I wanted to take a minute to let others know ahead of time. In previous reviews the AC didn't work, and it still wasn't working when we got there. Also, the fireplace isn't working. We messaged them with pictures and they said it was set to the highest setting and wouldn't increase any further, which it was barely lit. No flame, and little heat. Again, not a huge deal for us but if that is something your booking this for just know it isn't working currently. The road is still washed out also. We had 4x4 vehicles, but if you are in a smaller vehicle you might have trouble getting up the driveway. Flies and wasps are around but it didn't bother us, I just did a quick vacuum every now and again to get them wiped up. Things I loved: the wildlife around here is so fun! We woke up to turkeys and deer daily. The air is crisp and clean. Kids had an absolute blast with the game room!”

“This location was a secluded and private location. It had a beautiful backyard and a few activities to keep the family busy. It felt private with a few neighbors, and was very easy to access the city without feeling like you were in the city. The only issues we had was the bathroom sizes as they must have renovated an older house, split one medium sized bathroom into two small bathrooms. We did note the floor being uneven from the remodel, but did not cause any issues. The walls and floor boards could use a scrub. Otherwise the house was clean and had the amenities you needed. The huge issue we had was there was no security. Not all doors to the outside locked so anyone could come in and out if they wanted to. There was no door or door code as stated so security was extremely low and made me quite nervous with my little ones safety.”

“This home was very nice. Decorated well, modern and inviting. I do think the price was a little high for the very rural location. The only negative was the messages received from the managing company with cost of extended stay, early check-in or late check out. The costs were crazy high and I felt it was off putting making it about making money versus the experience of the home and location.”

“We arrived around 5pm on Friday and when we entered the home, we were completely swarmed with flies. I had contacted the host and was told “flies are natural this time of year in the hills.” While I know that flies are natural, there was not just a couple. There were hundreds. Covering the windows and dead all over the floors. This is a huge sanitation issue. There was no food out and no windows were open that we could tell. After going back and forth for a while, the host finally agreed to send over a cleaner. When we returned that night, it was about 80% better. The next morning we went for breakfast and when we arrived back, the files were also back. When I contacted the host again, they told me again that this is natural and to close the doors and windows. At this point, I requested a refund due to the vial sanitation issue and annoyance. My refund has been denied, they won’t give me a single penny back. We will never again stay or recommend “Stay In The Black Hills””

“The hosts were very responsive. it is a beautiful home with a beautiful view. But do not recommend to people who only have small cars and or no four wheel or all-wheel-drive. The road is very steep with a lot of switchbacks. The hot tub finally worked our second day. The host were very responsive trying to get it to work, but it was not ready and or very convenient to you since it didn’t work when we wanted to use it. We got one use out of it and then the temperature dropped again. The kitchen pots and pans are mixed and matched no lids to fit the pans and the pans handles were broken . There was very little information about checking out other than temperature, and dishes. Had to hunt to find the garbage. Where to put towels, etc. if it was there, we could not find it. This is the only Airbnb. I’ve never been able to navigate well on the app due to it taking me to another website. We had fun, but will not stay at this location again. I wouldn’t recommend this home to someone else.”

“Unfortunately, the home did not match the listing photos. The photos appear bright, welcoming and well maintained, but in person the home was very dark, with many lights not working or providing little light. There was also a noticeable musty/pet odor upon entering. Overall, the home felt dated and in need of maintenance in ways not apparent in the photos. Closets were filled with personal clutter, the kitchen was much smaller than expected. The basement door to the garage was also left open when we arrived. The “charming atrium” in the primary bedroom was an unusual tiled area with a drain and felt strange. Ultimately, we stayed only about 30 minutes before deciding we were not comfortable staying. We forfeited what we had paid and booked a hotel instead, which was much more comfortable and cozy. We wish we had booked the hotel from the beginning. We booked based largely on the bright, inviting appearance online, and unfortunately the home felt very different in person.”

“Served its purpose but, was disappointed with the lack of cleanliness, maintenance, and standard provisions. Wasn’t worth what we paid.”

“The layout and location was great. Bedrooms were lovely & clean. Convenient for our purposes and communication was very good. One reason I picked this place was the fenced in backyard for my grandkids to play. Worked out ok though the yard had some dog poop and trash in it. Arrived to trash and recycling bins completely full with trash in garage smelling up the garage. Grateful to the guy who came to remove some of the trash so we could squeeze ours in. Mice poop under sink in kitchen. I had a good time with the grandkids overall while daughter was at a conference all week. For the price I paid there should have been more attention to the cleaning issues mentioned.”
