Manager Review

Second Home Hosting

Second Home Hosting's guest rating of 4.64 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

Needed a place to stay for a funeral, and “luckily” this property was the only available house for 7 guests. We had quite a few issues. The pictures on the listing do not reflect the property correctly. It’s actually a completely different house. There is no brick on house, just siding. Entrance is completely different, kitchen completely different. No double sinks in bathrooms. Only correct thing was 4 bedroom/2 bath. The host sent the wrong door code, and we couldn’t get in house. We had 7 guests, but there were only 3 bath towels. No hand towels or kitchen towels. The host sent only 4 more bath towels via instacart. The bath mats in bathroom smelt like atrocious, stale animal pee. Wrong WiFi information sent. Kitchen sink smelled foul, the disposal and dishwasher weren’t plugged in. There was no coffeemaker, hairdryer, or pots/pans. There was only one spoon, one fork, but lots of knives. No comforters for some beds. Only sheer curtains, no blinds. The outside trash bins full.

New house and the property itself didn’t have issues. The address given was not the actual address, but within proximity. The majority of the pictures are not the actual space. Amenities listed are not accurate: no crib, no iron, not enough towels or blankets, no salt/pepper/oil. Host did not give us check in details until asked multiple times and it was 1.5 hrs after check in time. We asked for more towels and they delivered from Target so we had to wash/dry. Dryer runs about 3 hours to be completely dry. The two queen beds are actually full size, so smaller than expected. We had to sleep on the couch to make up for it. It was clean and brand new - but the other issues were enough to put me off staying again. Contacted the host for resolution but was given the run around with not end result.

Our group appreciated the house was spacious with 4 bedrooms, giving everyone plenty of room. Unfortunately, several issues affected our stay. The main bed only had a fitted sheet,no top sheet or comforter. We contacted the host and they said bedding was delivered to the porch, but since we arrived after 7:00 p.m., we felt these essentials should have been ready before check-in. We chose not to use the comforter since it had not been freshly laundered. The listing advertised shampoo and body wash, but none were provided, so we had to use kitchen hand soap instead. There were no trash bags in the cans, the outside dumpster was overflowing, and the couch was covered in cat hair. We knew pets were allowed but expected a more thorough cleaning. One other thing future guests should know is that the listing photos did not appear to be of the actual house. It was very similar, but definitely not the one we stayed in. Overall, the home had plenty of space for a larger group.

⭐☆☆☆☆ We cannot recommend this property. This was the most expensive Airbnb our group has ever rented, yet it was the most disappointing experience we've had. When we arrived, housekeeping was still cleaning, so we had to unpack while the home was being prepared. Throughout our stay we dealt with a broken couch, broken garage door, broken dishwasher, a non-working TV in the master bedroom, and missing basic supplies like toilet paper and hand soap, which we had to purchase ourselves. We reported each issue as we discovered it, but none were resolved during our stay. Before checking out, we cleaned the home and left it in better condition than we found it. The home has potential, but it needs significant attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and guest readiness before future guests arrive. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we cannot recommend staying here.

Overall, the home was very nice, new and clean. At booking, I was given 1 address. Right before checking in, a 2nd address. After checkout, they thanked me for staying at 3rd address. All in the same neighborhood. Secondly, our reservation was for 8. There was 3 towels. No trash bags, no paper towels, no hand soap, etc. I sent the host a message on day 1, and the supplies finally arrived the day before checkout.

Upon arrival, the couch in the living room was totally broken. It was missing 1 foot and the center of the back. I’m assuming was also broken. My problem is do not make your house ready for rent knowing damn well that that couch is not serviceable. When brought to their attention, I was told well we probably should need to replace that. That’s fair, but somebody clean that house and they knew this couch was totally broken not by a little bit but by a lot. ironically, the rest of the house is clean. I would stay there again if that couch was not unserviceable.

Floors needed sweeping. Sticky spots on floors. Stains on walls. Baseboards filthy. No toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand towels, or soaps until I notified host and they delivered them. Master bedroom bedding was stained. Two dining chairs broken. Dirty shower curtain in hall bathroom. Dead battery in TV remote. Dishwasher had mold in it. Clothes washer too dirty to use. Definitely not worth what I paid. Especially considering I had to clean the place to make it somewhat livable and I had to request amenities that should always be provided.

Two days before our trip, we were told our original rental was unavailable due to plumbing issues. While we appreciated being notified and offered a replacement, problems started immediately. The front door keypad never worked, leaving us unable to properly secure the home. The host's solution was to leave the back door unlocked, which is unacceptable. The house was also not prepared for eight guests. We were short on towels despite confirming there would be enough, and some areas, including bathrooms and pillows, were not clean. Additional supplies were delivered, but the towel issue was never resolved. Wi-Fi problems lasted until the second night, and we were even asked to contact the internet provider ourselves. A clean, secure home with working amenities is a basic expectation. Due to the numerous issues, I would not stay here again or recommend this property.

Front door appeared to be broken into with broken door jamb. Could not securely close the front door through the night. Beds had no sheets or linens. Trash bags and clothes left in unit. Carpet on stairwell was extremely dirty.
