Blue Ridge Escapes

Blue Ridge Escapes's guest rating of 4.78 is below average and may adversely impact performance. Some of this can come from specific properties they manage — but where reviews point to manager weaknesses (responsiveness, cleanliness, listing accuracy) that would apply to your home too, they can adversely affect your bookings and the quality of guests you attract.

Beautiful setting. Our family enjoyed the stay. Be aware, however, that the boat house/dock is in need of serious maintenance. Nails and screws are exposed and if you have small children, you will not be able to relax. We had to be very careful getting in and out of the water to avoid the protruding nails and screws. The flooring on the dock is splintered and will soon collapse at spots. After letting the host know, i read through old comments. I noticed a review from September of 2025 stating the same issue. The response from the host acknowledged the issue but apparently didn't move to fix the problem. A year later, it is in worse shape and more dangerous.

The stay had a couple of issues worth mentioning. The listing states a hair dryer is provided, but there wasn’t one in the unit. And when I brought it up, the host confirmed they don’t actually have one, despite it being listed as an amenity. Also, the showerhead in the bathroom kept making an intermittent noise, especially noticeable during shower. I’d suggest the host update the listing to accurately reflect the amenities, and have the showerhead looked at, as this would improve the experience for future guests.

The pictures don’t do it justice and we did have a great week! There were several issues that needed to be addressed. Ceiling fans were not clean, especially in the kitchen and hadn’t been for a long time. The boat dock had Nails that needed to be hammered back in, safety issue and it messed up one of our expensive floats. After reading reviews from a year ago, it was the same issue. Overall, we had a good time but attention to this property would make it so much more enjoyable. At first, we thought we would rent again but now we’re not sure.

The bunk beds really need new mattresses. The current mattresses were unsleepable which pushed us into two beds. I wouldn’t have rented this place knowing we only had 2 small beds. Also the property was very overgrown. This is made us unable to walk the trails and even locate the pond. This was another reason we chose this location. But was not prepared to walk through tall grass and weeds. Glad we didn’t bring our dog, dog run was full of mud and I wouldn’t recommend this option. House was very dusty when arrive, carpets on stairs and upstairs needed vacuuming. Wondering if we were the first in awhile to rent this.

This is a nice home with nice views and amenities, but I can't recommend staying here. We had an issue that the mgmt company did not handle well. Both my kids woke up 2 days in a row with multiple itchy bites. We washed their sheets, checked thoroughly for bed bugs, and looked for other possible sources. Eventually we found bugs on the bath mat and bathroom floor that were fleas or mites. Both my kids had put their clean clothes there when showering. This was a major issue and hassle both while on vacation and when returning home to be sure we didn't bring any bugs or larvae back with us. Time consuming & stressful! I communicated all this and sent pictures to the mgmt company. They said nice words but did nothing other than offer a small discount. I was never able to contact anyone local to this area. Everyone I talked to was based abroad. I have never had an experience like this with an Airbnb host. Not sure if it was outsourced cust svc or owned by private equity. Not good though.

I do NOT recommend booking with Blue Ridge Escapes. The amenities advertised in the listing were not available, and the property was not clean. Despite the listing advertising “strong Wi-Fi,” there was no internet service for the duration of our stay. The bathrooms had extensive visible mold, old and dirty shower curtains, and the carpets throughout the property were heavily soiled and in an unacceptable condition. The customer service was even more disappointing. Rather than addressing the property’s deficiencies or offering reasonable compensation, Gabrielle from the property management company responded in a passive-aggressive and unprofessional manner. Airbnb reviewed the photographs documenting the property’s condition and, according to Airbnb, advised the host to provide compensation. Instead of resolving the issues, Gabrielle chose to cancel our reservation mid-trip, requiring us to leave rather than remedy the problems. This compounded the inconvenience for our young family.

Didn’t love staying at this location. Inaccurate description about the number of bathrooms. Looks different from the photos. Doesn’t even have a dishwasher.

Highly recommended but disappointing. Fridge didnt work, Door from kitchen to deck would not open making it very inconvenient to get to the deck for cooking on the grill. Shower door handle very loose, Toilet seats loose, Water smelled bad and very hard water. Hot tub had debris. Scheduled exterminator during our stay and Maintenance person that should've been done before we got there. Ill go elsewhere next time..

The directions provided used route #s where only names were listed on the roads and did not have distances (was the next turn 2 blocks or 2 miles away?), there were dirty dishes and flatware in the cabinets, the commode seat was completely slipping off (I repaired it) the water pressure was random and often not enough for a shower, there were no extra blankets as advertised, the patio area was filthy: nasty table, dirty wet towel and trash, no life jackets as required for the advertised canoe- then discovered the canoe had a large hole. When I reached out to Blue Ridge, the communication was not really responsive - then finally they said they would refund me $70 for the lack of the canoe, it has been 2 weeks and no refund. The location is lovely, but I would not go there again. Never had these problems in all my many years of Airbnb all over the world, including other places on Claytor - this was very sad.
