“While vacationing, highway 12 was washed away from the storm. We were told that we could stay in the house we were in until we were notified otherwise. It was after 5pm when we were told we needed to evacuate the house because the owners son wanted to be in that house. We have 4 grandchildren with us. Three under five months. We were able to rent another house. However the owners son did not move into the house until four days later. Very upset about having to move when there was no way for us to return to our home. The owners son had another house he was staying in but wanted the one we were staying in. We were in the middle of cooking dinner for the houseful of people we had and had to stop, pack up the house and move to another location.”

“The house and location were great. The house itself is lovely but it needs a good deep deep clean, housekeeping did not do their job well. I was totally okay with it smelling like dogs and having a little dog hair due to it being pet friendly but it was pretty gross when we arrived, there was literally dog poop on the floor from previous guests. I saw the last review about the fleas and unfortunately both of our dogs also got fleas after being in the house after a few days, even though the maintenance worker assured us there were no fleas. we were trapped on the island due to the the storm and had to stay a few extra days. No one warned us that we should've left early before the storm. Hatteras Realty was good about communication after the storm but I was kind of surprised no one came to check the home after the storm since it was completely surrounded by ocean water (driveway and road totally washed out with sand and vehicles kept getting stuck).”

“The house itself was nice, clean, and comfortable. Unfortunately, our experience with the management company, Hatteras Realty, was extremely disappointing. During our stay, a nor’easter caused road closures that left us unable to leave the island. Hatteras Realty was very difficult to reach regarding the possibility of extending our stay so we could secure lodging while stranded. We received little guidance and ultimately had to handle the situation ourselves during an already stressful time. If the owners see this review, I strongly suggest considering a different management company, such as Surf & Sound Realty or Midgett Realty. We witnessed both companies going above and beyond to assist their stranded guests, and the difference in communication and support was significant. While we enjoyed the home, Hatteras Realty’s lack of communication and support was unacceptable. Based on this experience, we would not rent a property managed by them again.”

“The house was good enough. It is definitely in need of some updating and repairs. Definitely they should start with the upstairs ceiling being painted. It looks very dirty. The bath tub in the main bedroom needs new caulk. There is mold under the caulk. There are various places that need drywall work. Also for a beach rental, carpet is a bad idea. The plus side is, it is very close to the beach. There is a lift for your luggage, groceries, etc. That is very helpful. There is toilet paper and paper towels to get you started. Overall, it is ok. If I was going back, I'd probably look for somewhere different.”

“House was clean and well maintained. Location was excellent. Kitchen could use updated cookware but otherwise we were pleased with the house.”
