“Great place but the landowner wasn’t very responsive”

“Very nice location , I would bring your own towels, body wash, trash bags, paper towels & TP as little to none is provided. The beds were very comfortable & over all very cozy stay.”

“Starting with the positives, the home is in a great location, close to the beach, and the neighborhood felt peaceful and safe. From the street, the house was cute, and initially I felt optimistic. That changed once I stepped inside. I have never had a negative Airbnb experience before now because I’m usually very selective, but I dropped the ball on this one. The property was unclean and there was a strong, unpleasant odor throughout the home. I was traveling with my adult child and my dog while working remotely, so I did my best to make it work, cleaning the space myself to make it livable. I took Benadryl daily because something in the home or the furniture made me itchy. As we were opening the front window we observed a culmination of hair from past pets trapped behind the couch. We had to buy our own spatulas because the property provided items were rusty. Did I enjoy my trip? I enjoyed my time on the beach but this home was a huge disappointment and a lesson learned.”

“Trash was not taken out on the outside which cause bugs and flies to surround it and golf cart had some trouble working.”

“An attractive and fairly comfortable house near enough to the beach for it to not be inconvenient to go. Our experience, however, was soured by the exceptionally meager amenities and general sense that the rental cared, almost exclusively, about squeezing every penny of profit from the rental. One small towel per guest, no dish soap or hand soap, 2 trash bags for a week long stay, and etc etc etc. A complete lack of hospitality, especially when combined with generic, boiler plate messaging that makes sure to tell you all of the things you can’t do, will be charged extra for, etc. The entire experience had us feeling on the back foot for the entire trip. Added insult is a 4PM check-in and a 10AM checkout…. Taking an hour from both sides of the norm illustrates, perfectly, the greed on the margins this place trades in. Again, a nice enough house but one which is near-impossible to feel welcome or valued in because of the hosts.”

“The location was great! Oak Island is my favorite beach! The cleanliness and maintenance of this house were extremely disappointing. I reported numerous issues to iTrip at check-in and throughout our stay. While they offered to send someone each time, I expect a rental to be clean and functional upon arrival and declined any interruption. The sunroom floor was covered in dog hair, smelled strongly of urine from a dirty mat, and had dirty windows obstructing the beach view. A window was open and off track. The vacuum was filthy, making it difficult to clean ourselves. The kitchen floor had a cracked piece sticking up, creating a tripping hazard. The oven was dirty and had a chemical smell when used. Silverware had to be washed before use. Other issues included a broken toilet paper holder, gum stuck on bunk bed slats, a stained bed skirt, and bedroom couch with holes. Checkout instructions were inconsistent between texts, Airbnb messages, and notebooks, causing unnecessary confusion.”

“We visit OKI annually to celebrate our engagement at the OKI lighthouse. We love OKI and the beach is like no other. Unfortunately, we did not have the most enjoyable experience that we have had in years past… There are several electrical issues in the home. One of which was incredibly annoying and honestly alarming during our stay. The master bedroom ceiling light would suddenly come on randomly throughout the night, waking my wife up multiple times. Also, the outdoor light next to the master bedroom would go on and off during the night causing us to be unsettled with security issues. Furthermore, the master bathroom light and lighting in the living room flickers spastically when turned on. The dishwasher pops open on its own during a cycle, never fully cleaning the dishes. The guest bathroom shower curtain had mold on it as if it had not been cleaned or changed in quite some time. The owner refused to do anything. Needless to say, we will not be staying here again next year.”

“Overall the place was great and looked as good as it did in the pictures. The screen door leading from the back porch to the pool area was ripped and broken when arriving since that door does close way to fast on people so it seemed like a previous person push their hand through it trying to stop door from slamming shut. The golf cart needs updating and cleaning, we even cleaned it off for them before leaving since it was dirty and getting rusted out. The speedometer says it goes faster than it really does and most things even a bike will pass you will driving it. Small detail was dried up dog poop left by lounge chair but that wasn’t a big deal. Overall would book again as it’s a great place close to the beach.”

“Overall, the house was okay, but we did run into a few issues during our stay. We found earwigs and spiders in 3 of the 4 beds, and there were noticeable dust and cobwebs throughout the house. The pool also wasn’t clean when we arrived, and the toilet in the kitchen-side bathroom stopped flushing multiple times. That said, iTrip Oak Island was responsive and sent cleaners out quickly to replace bedding, spray for pests, and clean the pool the next day. Unfortunately, two nights before checkout, a large roach landed on my child in the middle of the night, which was pretty upsetting. The home has potential, but the cleanliness and pest issues affected our overall experience.”

“The house was a great space for our family vacation bringing the dogs. Having the golf cart available to us was a great addition and allowed for a quick and easy drive and park at a nearby beach access. The home was clean but there were a few small details that we noticed upon arrival that made us feel like the cleaning may have been rushed, such as a cleaning rag and squeegee left in the main shower, medication pills found on the floor, and toilet paper not replaced with fresh rolls. One other minor inconvenience was that the televisions were signed into accounts that would not allow us to sign into our own app accounts without a pin. When we inquired about this we were told that new downloads were not allowed, I do not believe the hosts understood the problem. Overall a great rental and we love coming to Oak Island but I believe this house has a few things to work out. It seemed like the decor recently changed or some was removed before our stay.”
